Weston Wheelers’ latest ride saw members cycle to Bristol and back via Spike Island.

Weston Wheelers headed for Bristol via the Avonmouth Bridge, with their ultimate destination, a coffee stop on the harbourside in Bristol.

A group of 13 riders departed from Priory School and headed out of Weston, through Bourton and onto the Bristol Road. Taking the road toward Yatton, the party turned onto the arrow straight roads across north Somerset moorland past Kenn and onto Clevedon.

Quickly passing through the town, the group made for Portishead. Next came Pill and the cycle route across the Avonmouth Bridge, before taking to the cycle path along the Portway and into Bristol.

Having completed just over half of their journey, there was a brief but welcome coffee stop at Mud Dock, on Bristol’s Harbourside, before the riders took to the roads across Spike Island, onto Long Ashton and the Festival Way.

Away from traffic, the riders made good progress toward Nailsea. Returning to Yatton, the cyclists retraced their route through Clevedon, into Wick St Lawrence and returned to their starting point at Priory School.

Club members out on this ride were: Paul D, Mike, Paul G, John, Ben, Andy J, Steve, Andy P, Jeremy, Wayne, Dave and Duncan. Also today, on her first club outing was Diane.

The ride totalled 50 miles, with 1,500ft of ascent at an average of 15.5mph.

The Wheelers depart from Priory School each Sunday morning at 9am and also Wednesdays at 6pm. Non-club members are welcome to join them to try out group riding. Details can be found on their website; http://westonwheelers.cc
