Weston 2 Bath Buccs 5WESTON faced league leaders and unbeaten Team Bath Buccs at Priory School, knowing a top performance was needed to get a result.Injuries meant the front two of Hart and Bearsby were unavailable so veteran Brees was called up from the Seconds. For the first 10 minutes, both sides cancelled each other out, but Bath took the lead from a disputed short corner which was dispatched by their French midfielder. Weston created a few good chances and from one Price crossed for Brees to score with an excellent deflection to make it 1-1. Bath had the majority of play, but Weston showed good ball retention with the midfield of Chambers, Long, Dennis and McConkey showing their quality. Ten minutes before half time Bath extended their lead when Summers failed to clear and on the half-time whistle Bath scored again from a well worked short corner, but the score did not reflect how the half was played. In the second half, Weston scored from a penalty flick converted by McConkey when Tom Dennis was brought down by the keeper which stopped a goal-scoring opportunity. Bath were struggling to cope with Weston and Gambling at sweeper had another fine game. However, Bath scored a fourth with 15 minutes left from a breakaway and in the last few minutes a superb individual goal saw them complete the scoring. The scoreline looks like it was an easy win for Bath, but Weston can take a lot of positives from the match. Man of the match was Roy Beer who made a number of outstanding saves in goal and the Anchor went to captain Duncan Long for his commitment and drive.
