Weston Ladies first team hosted a challenging game against Clifton Robinsons. Despite their best performance of the season, Weston were narrowly beaten.

The game’s pace was set by Weston from the first whistle with help from brilliant plays by attackers Abdulgani and Childs. An early goal from Clifton did not shake Weston’s resolve and tactical defensive transfers allowed Gordon to travel up the pitch.

Greed continued this momentum and made fine runs up the wing. Captain Westgate was able to beat the remaining Clifton defence and strike a powerful ball into the D. This was picked up by Elliott, who deflected the ball past the keeper and into the goal.

With further brilliant plays from Weston, Trowbridge was able to pass with precision to create multiple openings and earned herself the Milton Larder’s player of the match award.

A strong defence and a multitude of spectacular saves from Morrison allowed Weston to keep the scores level at half time.

The second half began strong with the Elliott sisters making efficient passes up the pitch. A goal from a Clifton short corner could not be saved, but Howson maintained Weston’s composure with well-placed hit outs.

Kingscott kept the intensity of the game at a high throughout with good runs and effective tackles. With a last-minute ball from Westgate being passed to the top of the D, Jeffrey’s dive amounted to nothing.
