Weston runners earn valuable championship points

Weston Athletic Club runners travelled to Wimborne to earn valuable club championship points.

Keen to make the most of the opportunity to earn extra valuable points for the club championship, five runners from Weston Athletic Club travelled to Wimborne for the town’s 10-mile road race.

It was time well spent, with all five performing extremely well and running great races. Rob Furlong was the fastest Weston runner in the field, and finished 23rd overall in 1.03.10.

Just 10 seconds separated Phil Tomlinson and Marc Whiting with Phil crossing the line in 1.07.47 and Marc in 1.07.57. Marc’s efforts also saw him finish third in his age category, followed by Stuart Diamond finishing fifth in the same category in 1.09.04.

Helen Diamond finished in 1.21.38 earning herself a new personal best for the distance in the process.

Given that the club only fielded five runners at the event, it’s particularly impressive that it still finished eighth overall out of 34 teams represented.

Meanwhile, in the Cotswolds, Michael Reep took on the Broadway marathon which features 3,000ft of climb along the 26.2 mile route, mainly on trails and tracks. Michael ran an excellent race and finished in 4.25.19 - fastest overall in his category.

The next race organised by the club is the third prom run of the season on Thursday. The main five-mile race starts on the seafront near the Tropicana at 7.30pm and is preceded by the one-mile junior race at 6.45pm.
