Glentworth Lettings were the sponsors for a junior tournament held at Weston Tennis Club.

Weston Tennis Club were delighted to hold a Glentworth Lettings junior tournament, the event was attended by junior members and was well supported by their families.

The Under 10-event was contested on a round- robin basis with two boxes of five players, all matches were championship tie-breaks to 10 points.

There were some exciting contests with all players in each box performing very well. In Box A Marcus Llewellyn and Jack Spiers won through to the semi-final and in Box B, Freddie Simmonds and Henry Donhou were the qualifiers.

Both semi-finals were superbly contested with Freddie and Marcus making it to the final. A special mention should be made of William Burnett who missed out getting to the last four by only one point.

The final lived up to its billing with both players showing their wide range of shots in what was a thrilling match. Freddie fought all the way but he was edged out by the speedy Marcus who took the match and the title 10-7.

The Under 14-event was also played in a round-robin format and there were some outstanding performances.

The top two players in the group, the talented Alessia Jiga and the athletic youngster Louie Bush-Evans came through to contest a one set final.

Both players put up a great fight which saw the excellent shot maker Alessia struggle to break Louie’s rock solid defence in a close contest. The scoreline did not reflect a well fought match which saw Louie clinch the title 6-2.

The Under-18 Glentworth Trophy event, named after the club’s sponsors, Glentworth Lettings Ltd, saw three players produce some excellent performances in the round robin matches.

The defending champion Jonathan Evans took on the consistent Ben Insley in a high quality match in which Jonathan opened up a 5-2 lead and was seemingly on his way to a win.

However Ben showed his fighting spirit to take the match to a tie-break which he won narrowly by 7-5 and hence the set 7-6.

Next up it was the big serving Jack Richards who took on Jonathan and this proved to be another close contest in which Jack put up a brave fight but saw Jonathan win 6-3.

In the final Jonathan came up against Ben once again. Ben got off to a quick start opening up a 4-2 lead after some long groundstroke rallies. Jonathan began to tire a little, Ben was in no mood to let him back and closed out the match 6-3 to become the new champion.

The trophies were presented by head coach, Jamie Allen and Darren Clapp, managing director of Glentworth Lettings Ltd, who generously sponsored the event.

Jamie holds regular junior sessions throughout the week. For more information, please contact Jamie on 07790 937448 or view the club website at westontennis.net
