Axbridge windsurfers help to break a world windsurfing record at Axbridge reservoir.

A TEAM of windsurfers from Axbridge reservoir near Cheddar got together to help raise £530 for Cancer Research which was part of a national campaign.

Windsurfing 4 Cancer Research (W4CR) helped set a new world record for the number of windsurfers on the water at any one time. The world record target was to get over a 1,000 windsurfers on the water around the country at noon on May 1 which was easily hit and at the same time raise money for charity to support Cancer Research.

Axbridge reservoir has a strong windsurfing membership and a thriving T15 group of youngsters lead by Andrew Lucas the head instructor. They made up the majority of the fleet, with special
mention going to Libby Rogers (11), who singlehandedly raised £114 on her own in just a week. They also had support from the Worlds No1 female speed sailor Zara Davis who lives locally in Clevedon.

The weather also played its part with a moderate wind and lots of sunshine to help the day along. Special thanks go to the helpers without whose help the event would not have happened, Karen Turner, Andrew Lucas and Claire Rogers and all the Axbridge T15 crew.
