Star-studded line-up at Wells Comedy Festival

A string of top comedians including Rhod Gilbert, James Acaster and Sara Pascoe are among the line-up for Wells Comedy Festival which is set to be ‘bigger and better’ than ever.

A number of acts have now been announced and the star-studded line-up includes Alexei Sayle, Mark Watson, Nish Kumar, Angela Barnes, Jessie Cave, Adam Riches and Scroobius Pip, Paul Foot, Tim Key, Limmy and Hal Cruttenden.

Wells Comedy Festival, which is now in its fourth year, has almost doubled in size since 2017.

From May 25-27, England’s smallest city will host dozens of comedy shows at six venues across Wells.

Performers include Mock The Week regular James Acaster, Welsh funnyman Rhod Gilbert, multi award-winning stand-up comedian and author Sara Pascoe and master of alternative comedy Alexei Sayle.

Edinburgh comedy award-winner Tim Key, Bristolian Mark Watson and absurdist master Paul Foot. as well as Live at the Apollo stars Hal Cruttenden and Desiree Burch will also take to the stage during the event.

Ben Williams, founder and producer of the festival, said: “This is another huge year for the Wells Comedy Festival, nearly doubling in size compared to 2017.

“I couldn’t be happier with the line-up so far, covering all areas of the comedy spectrum. And there’s plenty more to come.”

Organisers have also announced shows from TV names including The Chase’s Paul Sinha, Live At The Apollo star Dane Baptiste, Never Mind the Buzzcocks favourite Tony Law, local hero Richard Herring with his hugely popular podcast and Upstart Crow’s Spencer Jones.

There are a number of comedy award winners and nominees from Edinburgh Fringe Festival including double-award winner John Kearns and fellow nominees Joseph Morpurgo, Elf Lyons, Ahir Shah, Lucy Pearman, Ben Target, Adam Hess, Mat Ewins, Kwame Asante, Gein’s Family Giftshop and Steen Raskopoulos.

YouTube sensations including The Brett Domino Trio, character comic Colin Hoult and Radio 4 sketch stars Lazy Susan will also make an appearance, plus acclaimed stand-ups Lou Sanders, Fern Brady, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Brett Goldstein, Bobby Mair, Harriet Kemsley, Stephen Bailey, Evelyn Mok, Sean McLoughlin, Pat Cahill and Luke McQueen.

Comedy shows will take place at venues including Cedar Halls, Wells Little Theatre, the White Hart Hotel, The Venue and Tramways.

Further shows will be announced in the coming weeks.
