The Big Day Out

FIVE days of free family fun will kick off in Weston next weekend with the CBeebies Big Day Out.

It is part of a BBC campaign which aims to make cooking fun and accessible for the whole family, and there will be lots of interactive activities on offer.

Headlining the event will be special guests Phoebe Furchester-Fuzz and Furgus Fuzz from The Furchester Hotel, with a live show called Kitchen Catastrophe, which will have singing, problem-solving, and a guest chef to cook up some monster food.

Former JLS member JB Gill will be at the event cooking up a storm as a guest chef – so the Mercury caught up with him to see what he is most looking forward to.

He said: “I have actually been to Weston before as part of T4 On The Beach, and I am looking forward to coming back and getting stuck in and joining the Furchester clan.

“I think the most exciting part is going to be working alongside the puppets, I have been told they are always up to mischief.

“It is going to be a fun event and not just the event I am in, there is loads and loads going on.”

“People coming along will be able to see me cooking, there will be some fun-filled demonstrations with really healthy, easy-to-make and cheap to buy meals.”

JB owns a farm, where he lives with his wife and son, and says his love of food stems from his love of fresh produce.

He said: “I have a son myself and he has just started eating solids and expanding his palate, and we want the best for our children including the food going into their bodies and helping them grow.

“That’s why I love farming and that is the origin of it, I think it is important people know where their food is coming from.”

There are a limited number of free tickets available for North Somerset residents for the Kitchen Catastrophe show, featuring JB.

These tickets must be collected in person from the Seafront Office of North Somerset Council in Marine Parade in Weston.

They are limited to six tickets per household and for one show time only. They will be issued on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved over the phone.

The event itself is not ticketed so people can go along throughout the day and enjoy free activities. The Big Day Out will be on the Beach Lawns from July 29 to August 2 between 10am and 5pm each day.
