George Sampson.

Actor George Sampson is returning to Weston-super-Mare’s Playhouse to perform in Our House this month. Ahead of his performance, he shared his top 10 favourite songs with the Mercury. Think of this feature as a version of Desert Island Discs, only on Steep Holm Island.

Inner Circle - Sweat.

A song that gets played at all family parties, and always get me singing and dancing. An instant classic and very underrated song.

Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack.

My favourite RnB/funk track, makes me dance no matter where I am and could listen to it any day of the week.

Simply Red - Stars.

Simply has to be on the list, Mick is a genius, he’s a massive Manchester United fan and his songs are top class.

UB40 - Kingston Town.

My favourite UB40 song, although any of their songs could have made my top 10... One of the few bands that take me back to my childhood days, and this for me, was them at their peak... absolute banger.

Madness - Our House.

In tribute to the musical I’m currently in. Madness were a huge part of my growing up, and were so underrated. Listening to them makes me feel proud to be a nutter, and a British nutter at that.

Phil Collins - You’ll Be In My Heart.

A classic from Phil, I love singing this song, it’s my go-to song when I’m auditioning and have to sing something, and is taken from the Disney film Tarzan, which is incredible.

Luther Vandross - Dance With My Father.

A song that gets right into my head and takes me back to being a young boy that loved music. This song is in my top 10 for so many reasons and all personal reasons. Luther’s voice was unbelievable and this song will go down music folk law as a classic.

Extreme - More Than Words

This song is a work of art for me, the voice(s), the melody, the laid back acoustics and the need to not have too much going on, but instantly capture the minds of everybody who listens to it... I can’t not sing this song.

Oasis - She’s Electric.

Another group that could have had more than three to four songs in my top 10. Oasis were and are still my favourite band of all time. When I was young I used to rock the Parker coat, the Gallagher hair cut and round tinted shades, with my hands around my back belting out Oasis anthems. They never made a bad song and one of my biggest dreams is to see them reunite, for one big gig. They were the best, and I listen to their songs daily, just whenever I need a pick me up. She’s Electric is their best song for me.

Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive.

The lighthouse family made anthem after anthem, and both High and Lifted should easily be in my top 10. But Ocean Drive is a song for me that regardless of what’s happened or who I’m with, where I am or what I’m doing this song makes me feel like I’m living my life to the fullest, instantly puts a smile on my face and just makes me love everything about the world, always has and will always be my favourite song, ever.

Honourable mentions: Anything UB40, Lighthouse family or Oasis, Uncle Kracker - Follow Me, Westlife - My Love/The Rose.
