AN EXHIBITION of the work of ‘a treasured angel’ was held to raise money for equipment at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Hayley Dowdell, a graphic illustrator, died aged 27 from cystic fibrosis, a debilitating condition which affects the lungs and digestive system, on November 10.
Family and friends described her as ‘a treasured angel’ and the exhibition entitled Posthumous was hosted by Studio 10, in Orchard Street, Weston, to raise money for vital equipment for the Respiratory ward at the hospital.
Through Hayley’s talent this target was achieved on the opening night and her artwork continued to sell throughout the exhibition, which raised more than £1,000.
Coralie Kyriacou, close friend of Hayley and owner of Studio 10, said “The exhibition was a huge success and the opening night saw people queuing outside to get in to see her work.
“I have been moved emotionally the last few weeks by the amount of people I have had the pleasure of meeting because of Hayley. Her exhibition was her dream and I feel honoured to have been a part of that. She would be very proud of what she has achieved in order to help others.”
On behalf of Hayley, Studio 10 would like to thank everyone who attended the exhibition and a very special thank you to Sainsbury’s in Worle for their generous donation for the opening night.
The next fundraising event will be the LoveCreate Festival of music, arts and crafts, which will be held on the Grand Pier on July 14.
The day was inspired by Hayley and will be dedicated to art and design, which will help raise money for the Hayley Dowdell Trust to fund equipment for the cystic fibrosis wards at the Bristol hospital.
There will be a daytime arts, crafts and dance event running on the beach and in the Grand Pier from 11am-3pm, with a £1 suggested entrance fee. The event will feature belly dancing, drummers, T-shirt printing and family photography.
A night of live music from The Transpersonals and Neurosis Doll, will also be included in the festival from 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £10-12, are available from lovecreate@lovecreate.com or e-mail Faye at fayeconnelly@ hotmail.co.uk
