TOUGH guy Jason Statham returns to the silver screen in action thriller Safe (15), out tomorrow (Fri).
Statham plays former elite agent and cage fighter Luke, who sets off a series of explosive consequences when he blows a rigged cage fight.
His Triad gangster backers retaliate by murdering his family and exiling him from his former life forever.
This launches him headlong into a brutal war in New York’s underworld, pitting him between the gang, the Russian Mafia and high-level corrupt New York City politicians and police.
He encounters and rescues Mei, a 12-year-old Chinese girl from the same Triads who killed his wife.
She has the ability to memorise anything that comes into her head and stores a safe-cracking code that the gangs and police want to get their hands on, but they will have to get past Luke first, who tears a swathe through the city’s underworld in a bid to save Mei’s life and redeem his own.
The film is written and directed by Boaz Yakin (Death in Love), and also features Catherine Chan, Robert John Burke and James Hong and Chris Sarandon.
