Two decades on from the original science fiction film Independence Day, its long-awaited sequel has now landed.

Independence Day: Resurgence is set 20 years after the invasion which occurred in the first film.

The world is trying to recover from carnage by creating an Earth Space Defence (ESD) – but the aliens are far too clever and return to Earth with fresh plans for conquest.

Liam Hemsworth stars as Jake Morrisson, a US pilot for the ESD, and Jeff Goldblum reprises his role as scientist David Levinson.

The two are just a small part of the team working to combat the invasion, with the ESD even sending military forces to the moon.

However, despite the ESD’s best efforts, this alien invasion is set to be even bigger and more dangerous than the last.

The Mercury has teamed up with the Odeon to offer three lucky readers a chance to win a pair of tickets to the film.
