THE big blockbuster release of the week is Hanna (12A) – a tale about an assassin in the making.

The story follows a teenage girl who goes out into the world for the first time – and has to battle for her life.

Director Joe Wright weaves elements of dark fairy tales into the adventure thriller, filmed on location in Europe and Morocco.

Hanna (played by Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan of Atonement) is 16 years old.

She is bright, inquisitive, and a devoted daughter.

Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a solider; these come from being raised by her widowed father Erik (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of North Finland.

Erik has taught Hanna to hunt, put her through extreme self-defence workouts, and home-schooled her with only an encyclopaedia and a book of fairy tales.

Hanna has been living a life unlike any other teenager - her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin.

But out in the world there is unfinished business for Hanna’s family, and it is with a combination of pride and apprehension that Erik realises his daughter can no longer be held back.

n Also out this week at cinemas nationwide is Priest 3D (15).

The warrior priest breaks church laws in joining up with a sheriff and a gorgeous priestess.

These three work together to hunt down a band of very bad vampires, which has taken the priest’s niece, before it has the opportunity of turning her into a vampire.

Based on a novel of the same name, the special effects are going to make this movie jump out at the audience - literally.

n The other two releases out this week are Water For Elephants (12A) and Something Borrowed (12A).

Water For Elephants, starring Robert Pattison and Reese Witherspoon, is based on the best-
selling book of the same name.

It tells the story of an unexpected romance between a veterinary school student, Jacob, and circus performer, Marlena.

Through their shared compassion for a special elephant, the couple fight against all the odds, and stand up to Marlena’s dangerous husband, to find true love.

Something Borrowed, starring Kate Hudson, is about top New York attorney Rachel, who has everything, except a man in her life.

To make matters worse, her best friend Darcy is engaged.

Then, after a few drinks on her 30th birthday, Rachel ends up in bed with Dex - the man she has had a crush on since law school. The problem is, Dex is Darcy’s fiancé.

As Rachel and Darcy’s friendship begins to take the strain, it leads to a series of explosive romantic revelations.
