A CELEBRITY chef will be filming for his new television series in Weston on Thursday.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, of River Cottage fame, is going to be shooting for Channel 4’s Hugh’s Fish Fight on the beach.

He will be down on the sands near the Sand Sculpture festival and the SeaQuarium from 2.30-4pm and the public is welcome to go down and get involved.

His new series will follow up on the campaign he started last year trying to change EU laws and banning discards, which are healthy fish thrown back into the sea dead.

They are often unmarketable species, fish which are below minimum landing sizes and catches of species which fishermen are not allowed to land, for instance due to quota restrictions

More than 800,000 people have so far signed Hugh’s petition online at www.fishfight.net

The new series is looking at marine protected areas around the world.

So far he has been filming in Thailand, the Phillipines, and Antarctica and now it is Weston’s turn to welcome him.

A writer, broadcaster and campaigner, Hugh is widely known for his uncompromising commitment to seasonal, ethically-produced food and has earned a huge following through his River Cottage TV series and books.

His early smallholding experiences were shown in the Channel 4 River Cottage series and led to the publication of The River Cottage Cookbook (2001), which won the Glenfiddich Trophy and the André Simon Food Book of the Year awards.

He continues to write as a journalist, including a weekly column in The Guardian, and is Patron of the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association (FARMA).

In October 2010 he began filming Hugh’s Fish Fight on sustainable fishing.
