Disney Pixar’s latest animated extravaganza hit cinema screens this week, delving into the peculiar Mexican celebration of the Day Of The Dead.

Coco will debuted on Friday, offering a family-friendly experience boasting beautiful presentation and a thought-provoking storyline – and the Mercury has three family tickets up for grabs.

The Latin inspired film comes from the team which created unforgettable children’s films like Toy Story, A Bug’s Life and Finding Nemo – and critics are already awarding Coco a comparable level of praise.

The film centres on the life of Miguel Rivera – voiced by 12-year-old American starlet Anthony Gonzalez – who dreams of becoming a famous musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz, but he is held back by his family’s baffling ban on music which dates back many generations.

Miguel is desperate to prove his musical talent and unlock the chains holding him back, and after a mysterious trail of events he finds himself in the stunning and colourful Land of the Dead.

There he stumbles across a trickster named Hector, who may hold the key to learning more about his family history and freeing himself from the bizarre ban on music.

Cinema review bible Rotten Tomatoes rates the film at 96 per cent, reporting Coco’s ‘rich visual pleasures are matched by a thoughtful narrative which takes a family-friendly – and deeply affecting – approach to questions of culture, family, life, and death’.

The Mercury has teamed up with Weston Odeon, in The Centre, to offer three lucky readers the chance to win a family to see Coco at a time of your choice.
