Lord Jeffrey Archer will return to Weston-super-Mare to give a talk and host an auction in the recently-refurbished Winter Gardens Pavilion.

Lord Archer, who was born in and grew up in the town, was a Conservative MP for a number of years.

His first jobs included selling ice creams on the Grand Pier in Weston and renting deckchairs on the seafront.

He is now a best-selling author and has published his books in 97 countries and in 37 different languages.

Richard Nightingale, who organised the event on behalf of the Weston Conservative Association, said: “I look forward to welcoming Lord Archer to Weston.

“His planned talk and auction of unusual items, including one of his own signed books, is one of the first major events to take place in the multi-million-pound recently refurbished Winter Gardens, now renamed The Winter Gardens Pavilion.

“Canapés and Prosecco will be on hand and there will also be an opportunity for one lucky couple to meet Jeffrey.

“This will be the event of the year and one not to be missed.”

Lord Archer has had a distinctly colourful life, which includes two years in prison for perjury and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

His writing, which he first started when he was on the edge of bankruptcy, has crossed genres, as he has published 18 fiction books, four short stories and the non-fiction work The Prison Diaries, based on his time in jail.

His most recent project was the seven-book series The Clifton Chronicles tells the story of the same family as they live through a number of key historical events, and it concluded last November with the final book This Was A Man.

As an amateur auctioneer, Lord Archer has helped to raise millions of pounds for various charities.

There will be a number of collectable items available during the auction at the Winter Gardens event.

An evening with Jeffrey Archer will take place at the refurbished Winter Gardens Pavilion in Royal Parade on October 20 from 5.30-8pm.

Tickets, priced £19.95 are available from www.eventbrite.co.uk by searching for An Evening With Jeffrey Archer.
