Rebel Dean will perform in Clevedon.

A Somerset rock ‘n’ roll performer will take to the stage in an award-winning show this week.

Whole Lotta Shakin’ – The Shakin’ Stevens Story is the world’s only touring theatre tribute show to the 1980s rock ‘n’ roll idol.

The show is written, produced and directed by Rebel Dean, who will star as the lead – Shakin’ Stevens.

The first half of the show takes a look at Shaky’s rags to riches rise to fame from his early days with The Sunsets in 1969 to his big break in Elvis The Musical and Jack Good’s TV series Oh Boy and Let’s Rock, which ultimately put the Welsh rocker on the road to stardom.

The second half is a full concert packed with his best hits, which promises to get the audience on its feet.

It was voted the Official Number One Winner of the National Tribute Awards 2017
by the National Agents Association in August and has wowed crowds across the UK and worldwide.

Rebel’s agent Jenny Dunster said: “This will certainly open doors and put this show firmly on the map. It is not easy to get nominated for this award and it is a great show and gets fantastic reviews everywhere it appears.

“Clevedon will be rockin’ and rollin’ to the sounds of 1980s nostalgia when the show comes to town.”

The Somerset star will also perform some tracks from his album, Rebellion, which topped the Reverb Nation charts.

Rebel and his band are no stranger to the touring scene, having headlined at the three-day Newbury Retro Festival in August.

But Rebel is best known for his acting career, starring in BBC’s Casualty, Only Fools And Horses and Hollyoaks.

Rebel said he was ‘excited’ to perform in Clevedon for the first time after a string of success at Weston’s Playhouse and the Bristol Hippodrome.

He added: “It is great performing in my home town for the first time after touring all over the UK and abroad.

“The people really know how to have a good time there and we have some long-standing friends and family who will be turning up too.”

Whole Lotta Shakin’ will be at The Princes Theatre, in Princes Road, on Saturday at 7.30pm.
Tickets, priced £20, are available from 01275 873405 or on the door on the night.
