The Tropicana will host one of the music scene’s most famous DJs.

Trevor Nelson will perform at the Weston seafront venue in January.

The 54-year-old will bring a night of classic R&B and soul to the South West in the new year.

His Soul Nation event is likely to be a popular one given he has enjoyed a long and varied career in broadcasting.

Nelson is perhaps most commonly associated with the BBC and Radio 1, but has also been a presenter of commercial stations such as Kiss FM.

Away from the studio, Nelson has achieved a great amount too.

He has won a MBE for his work with the millennium volunteers, which sits proudly alongside a record which includes four MOBOs and a lifetime achievement gong bestowed upon him by Sony Radio.

Show organisers believe it will be a sell-out.

Venue co-ordinator Joanne Cridge-Drinkwater said: “We are delighted to welcome Trevor Nelson to the Tropicana in January.

“This promises to be another sell-out event in our series of DJ nights, so we advise everyone to book their tickets soon.

“On the night, as well as our usual bar offerings, we’ll be putting on a special prosecco and wine bar to get the party started.”

Other events planned for the Tropicana this year include a prosecco festival and Funland which is continuing having been open throughout the summer holidays.

Nelson will be at the Tropicana on January 25, with the gig set to last from 8pm to midnight. It will be open to over 18s only.

Tickets, starting from £17 plus booking fee are available at www.seetickets.com/tour/trevor-nelson
