A British band are playing in Weston-super-Mare later this month, and Mercury readers can win a free pair of tickets to see them courtesy of The Playhouse.

The South will end their UK tour at Weston’s Playhouse theatre, in High Street, on April 20.

When pop group, The Beautiful South, split in 2007, some members of the band did not feel ready to hang up their microphones or instruments just yet.

The South feature former members of The Beautiful South, including singer Alison Wheeler and lifelong sax player Gaz Birtles, who has now moved across to vocal duties following original singer David Hemmingway’s departure last year.

They play songs made famous by The Beautiful South, including number one hit-single A Little Time, Perfect 10, Rotterdam, Don’t Marry Her and Carry On Regardless.

After eight years of playing under their new moniker, the group had to tinker its members again in 2017.

With the reshuffle complete, The South are a full team again and their live show promises to continue to celebrate classic Beautiful South songs.

The band will also play tunes from their debut album, Sweet Refrains, released in 2012.

The South will perform at The Playhouse on April 20 at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £27, can be purchased at www.theplayhouse.co.uk or on 01934 645544.

The Mercury has teamed up with The Playhouse to offer one lucky reader a pair of tickets to the showing.
