An award-winning comedy about a controversial painting purchase will be performed in Bath next week.

Art will run at the city’s Theatre Royal in Saw Close from Monday to May 12.

Serge (Nigel Havers) decides to spend a huge amount of money on a modernist painting, much to the dismay of close friends Marc (Denis Lawson) and Yvan (Stephen Tompkinson).

Will the pair’s anger at the provocative piece lead to even more anger-fuelled antagonisms to each other?

Art had its world premiere in Paris in 1994 before receiving rave reviews during runs in both Broadway and the West End.

The English version went on to win, among others, an Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 1997 and a coveted Tony Award for Best Play in 1998.

Tickets, priced £22.50-38.50, are available online or from the box office on 01225 448844.
