FOLLOWING a hugely successful revival at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough last year, Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy thriller, Communicating Doors, tours to the Theatre Royal Bath.

Liza Goddard, Laura Doddington, Jamie Kenna and Ben Porter reprise their roles from the 2010 production. Joining them are new cast members Daisy Aitkens and Ben Jones.

Ever wondered what lay behind that mysterious locked door in the corner of your hotel room? Ever fancied trying to walk through it? Beware if you do or, like call-girl Ms Poupée Désir, you might find yourself literally running for your life – backwards!

Witty, intriguing and marvellously entertaining, Alan Ayckbourn’s time-travelling comedy thriller was the winner of the 1996 Writers’ Guild Award for Best West End Play.

Communicating Doors, like so much of the author’s work, draws cinematic inspiration from early film noir, through Hitchcock’s Psycho to the classic TV series The Twilight Zone, and features some of Ayckbourn’s most memorable and touching comic creations.

After touring to the Theatre Royal in February with Alan Ayckbourn’s latest and seventy-fourth play, Life of Riley, the Stephen Joseph Theatre Company, including Bath favourite Liza Goddard, now returns with an acclaimed revival of his forty-sixth play, which he wrote in 1994.

Part murder mystery, part thriller, part sci-fi, part comedy, Communicating Doors has proved to be one of the author’s most popular works from the 1990s.

Alan Ayckbourn returns to direct the play after receiving a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre in 2010.

Communicating Doors appears at the Theatre Royal Bath from Tuesday until June 4.

Tickets, priced £16.50-32.50, are available from the box office on 01225 448844 or at
