Vintage swing songs will be performed when The Big Band arrives in Weston-super-Mare.

The Five Star Swing show promises classic songs from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Glenn Miller.

It is lead by bandleader Chris Smith Jr, a composer and arranger for the BBC Radio Big Band. He was once a composer for the Herb Miller Big Band – led by Glenn Miller’s brother.

Also featured is vocalist and saxophonist Simone, who was taught to play the alto saxophone in the 1980s by bandleader Ivy Benson.

Simone has recorded with the likes of Paul Weller and on the Paul Merton show.

The Big Band With Five Star Swing will be at The Playhouse, in High Street, on September 6 at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £16-18, are available from or 01934 645544.

The Mercury has teamed up with The Big Band With Five Star Swing to offer three pairs of tickets to the show.

The competition closes at 10am on September 1. Usual Archant rules apply and the editor’s decision is final.
