Weston’s theatre opened its doors at the weekend to show off all the behind-the-scenes action – and it has been described as the most successful open day yet.

The open day, organised by volunteer group Friends Of The Playhouse, consisted of a number of guided tours around The Playhouse Theatre, in High Street.

The event offered visitors a chance to learn about its history as well as get a sneak peek at how the costumes, make-up and lighting all work.

Dave Kingsbury, who is a member of the group, told the Mercury the event had been such a success that new members had signed up.

He said: “I think this was the most successful ever. We managed to recruit around 30 new members, which is great.

“I think we achieved what we wanted to, and it was a really great day.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy it and it was very busy all day. The staff all put in a great effort to make it run smoothly.”
