David Suchet and Brendan Coyle will star in Arthur Miller’s drama The Price in Bath throughout August.

Suchet is one of Britain’s most respected actors, known to millions for his role as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

His extensive theatre credits include another Arthur Miller play, All My Sons, for which he received a best actor award from the Critics’ Circle, along with an Olivier Award nomination.

He will play Gregory Solomon, a silver-tongued furniture dealer, who arrives at the childhood home of brothers Victor and Walter Franz.

He expects to close the deal on a straightforward financial transaction, but he is not counting on the brothers being there to confront each other, 16 years after their last meeting.

The Price was first seen on Broadway in 1968 and was nominated for two Tony awards, including best play.

Arthur Miller’s numerous acclaimed works include Death Of A Salesman, The Crucible and A View From The Bridge.

Coyle will play Victor Franz, a New York policeman approaching retirement.

He is best-known for his role as Mr Bates, the valet to Lord Grantham, in ITV’s hit period drama Downton Abbey. He also starred as Robert Timmins in three series of the BBC’s Lark Rise To Candleford, and he will soon be seen in the film Mary Queen Of Scots.

Walter Franz will be played by Adrian Lukis, who has recently appeared in Poldark, The Crown and New Tricks.

Sara Stewart completes the
cast as Esther Franz, Victor’s wife. She recently played Susie in the BBC drama Doctor Foster, and her other credits include The Night Manager and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

The Price is directed by Jonathan Church, hot on the heels of his critically-acclaimed West End production of An Ideal Husband.

During his 10-year tenure as director of the Chichester Festival Theatre, Church oversaw more than 100 productions and was awarded a CBE in 2015.

The Price will be at the Theatre Royal Bath, in Saw Close until August 25 at 7.30pm. There will be 2.30pm matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays too.

Tickets, priced £22.50-38.50, are available from 01225 448844 or www.theatreroyal.org.uk
