One of the most evocative and visceral films of the 1990s will be brought to life at Weston-super-Mare’s Tropicana in the form of an explosive theatre show.

Trainspotting explores the themes of deprivation, betrayal and drug addiction in 1990s Scotland by telling the tale of a group of young friends – Renton, Sickboy, Begbie, Tommy, Spud and Alison.

The film, which was directed by Danny Boyle, was a huge success at the box office and its sequel, Trainspotting: T2, was met with equal acclaim when it was released in cinemas earlier this year.

The show has been adapted for the stage by the King’s Head Theatre and In Your Face Theatre, and will be performed at the Trop at various times from May 2-5.

However, Trainspotting is not the only show planned for the seafront venue in the coming months, as the site grows in importance and popularity among the artistic community.

Other performers set to ignite the Tropicana’s stage in the coming months include Bristol’s Kid Carpet, the Living Spit theatre company, Idiot Child and Lost Dog.

Shows will be performed at the Tropicana, in Marine Parade, on various dates from April 9 to September 23.
