One of the greatest musicals of all time will delight theatre-goers when it comes to Bristol in the new year.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning musical Sunset Boulevard is a compelling story of romance and obsession based on Billy Wilder’s legendary film.

The production has won awards for best musical, best original score and best book of a musical.

The much-loved score includes Sunset Boulevard, With One Look, As If We Never Said Goodbye, The Greatest Star Of All and The Perfect Year, which will be performed by a full orchestra.

Ria Jones stars as Norma Desmond – a faded, silent-screen goddess, who lives in a fantasy world.

Cash-strapped screen writer, Joe Gillis, who is on the run from debt collectors, falls under her spell after she persuades him to work on her masterpiece which she believes will catapault her back into the limelight.

Joe is seduced by Norma and her luxurious lifestyle and he becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic world.

But when he falls for another woman and attempts to break free, dramatic consequences ensue.

Last year, Ria Jones played the role of Norma Desmond at the London Coliseum when Glenn Close was indisposed, receiving rave reviews and standing ovations for her performance.

Her West End credits include Fantine in Les Misérables, Grizabella in Cats and Florence in Chess.

Sunset Boulevard, directed by Nikolai Foster, will be showing from January 9-13.

Tickets, priced £18-54.50, are available from or on 08448 717627.

The Weston Mercury has teamed up with the Bristol Hippodrome to give readers the chance to win two pairs of tickets to the performance on January 9.
