BUDDING young musical stars have the chance to star in a production of Fame the musical when the professional musical production company Loganwest Productions rolls into Weston with its latest youth musical extravaganza.

The company, working closely with The Playhouse theatre staff, is currently looking for 200 young people from all over the local area to become involved in the Summer Youth Project: 2011 - Fame - the Musical.

The Summer Youth Project is an intensive course for young people aged nine to 22, during the first two weeks in August 2011, with rehearsals starting on day one and a full scale musical production being staged for five performances, just one week later.

Loganwest Productions has been undertaking this kind of course for over ten years. This years project will run by a top London Theatre producer and director, working with a professional team of choreographers, musical directors and stage managers – who together, will produce a West End quality production with the local young people.

Loganwest are proud that following its participation, around 20 per cent of participants gain places at some of the UK’s top Music and Drama schools.

Emma Smith, executive director for Loganwest, said: “Working with top theatre professionals seems to give the young people the skills and confidence they need to take the next step in their performing career.”

Matthew Tilke, events manager at The Playhouse, said: “We are really excited to be able to offer local young people such a great opportunity to get involved with a fantastic musical production.”

There is an audition on May 15 at The Playhouse.

To attend the auditions participants either can pre-register by completing an application form, which can be found by calling the Playhouse on (01934) 645544 or by applying online at – or just turn up on the day.

Youngsters aged nine to 15 should attend at 9.30am and people aged 16 to 22 should turn up at 12pm. Callbacks take place between 3-6pm.

Loganwest is also looking for young people to work backstage with its technical staff and should also complete an application form.
