A BBC Young Musician Of The Year will delight romantics with a special Valentine’s Day concert this month.
Since bursting onto the music scene Freddy Kempf has been winning over audiences and building a reputation as one of the finest and most exciting pianists of his generation.
As befits the most romantic evening of the year, there is passion as well as poignancy in the programme he has specially crafted.
The pathos of Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata and the intense farewell of Les Adieux create an emotional tension that dissolves into moments of exquisite tenderness in Chopin’s two Ballades, while Liszt’s arrangement of Cujus Animam, the tenor aria from Rossini’s Stabat Mater (made famous in recent times by Luciano Pavarotti) finds its release in the joyful abandon of Brahms’ delicate Waltzes.
Music for the heart, performed with deep sensitivity and expressiveness in the intimate space of St George’s in Great George Street, Bristol.
Tickets, priced £11-26, are available from the box office on 0845 4024001 or online at www.stgeorgesbristol.co.uk
The Mercury has teamed up with St George’s to offer two lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets to the concert.
