A TOE-TAPPING feast of swinging songs will resonate around The Playhouse Theatre in August.Classic big band pieces and swing songs from artists like Frank Sinatra will be performed at the Weston theatre in Swing 'n' Sinatra. Established bandleader Chris Smith, who has performed with the likes of the Glenn Miller Band, says the performance holds a special place in his heart. He said: "I have been brought up with this style of music and my father played trombone with Frank Sinatra on his European tours."While Chris didn't play with Old Blue Eyes himself, his career has taken him from jazz festivals to Top of The Pops. Chris also plays trumpet and piano, sings and is well-known for his compositions frequently played on Jazz FM and Radio Two. Joining the versatile performer is Chris' wife Simone, who sings and plays lead alto saxophone in the band, Five Star Swing. The seven-piece band will deliver classic pieces from Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Jools Holland-style rhythm and blues music. The band features five saxophones, male and female vocalists, multi-instrumentalists and a dynamic rhythm section. In recent months Five Star Swing has played alongside Spice Girl Mel C and on BBC's Children in Need and put on a concert for Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The performance takes place on August 2 at 8pm.
