WITHOUT looking at the results, I was torn between the Angus Meek design for the new pier and the Stride Treglown, the former being more traditional and the latter very modernistic, but both being very attractive. As I am basically a traditionalist I eventually came down on the Angus Meek design. I have a fondness for the old Weston Pier as my husband, Brian, and I met for the first time at the end of the pier next to the dodgems back in 1957 when I was 15 and still being schooled at the local grammar school, and he was 17 serving in the RAF at Locking. We have been happily married for 47 years and were very sad to wake up to the news that 'our pier' was ablaze, but look forward to a new innovative exciting design arising from the ashes. Will it be ready for our 50th wedding anniversary in October 2011? Good luck to the new owners and designers. ANNETTE BUCKLEY - Battle, East Sussex
