RECENTLY I was in one of the mid-European supermarkets in our town and I noticed a young man breaking open a six-pack of natural spring water and removing one bottle. He then moved on to the cider area and picked up four one-litre bottles of eight per cent 'chemical cider' and then a bottle of Vodka. He was asked for age identity by the cashier. He provided this and paid cash for his shopping. Outside he distributed his catch among numerous youngsters. Some of whom could not have been older then 14 or 15. I spoke to the cashier and the answer was 'feel free to spill the beans on them next time.'They have to write off the other five bottles of a six-pack as no longer saleable. What chance do I, a person in their mid-60s with a progressive heart disease, have against a bunch of alcohol-fuelled teenagers if I spilled the beans on their illegal activities once leaving the supermarket? Heaven help us in a few years.C J LOXTON - Bristol Road, Worle
