Re council scrooge at the tip. Further to your article in the January 17 edition of The Times, I write to say that I believe that this is yet another of North Somerset Council's most ridiculous and short-sighted decisions.I am a retired engineer and have had great pleasure in buying and rebuilding 62 bicycles from the Portishead amenity centre along with several other items such as wind surfers and a fibreglass canoe and other sports equipment. After renovating the cycles I have passed them on to family, friends and the needy and have seen the pleasure they have given. Even my grandchildren have taken their cycling proficiency badge tests on cycles from the tip.I have seen caravans, boats, boat trailers, household furniture, sports equipment and many other good items, too many to mention for sale at the civic amenity site.I believe that we need to reverse this decision as soon as possible or consider changing our council representatives at the next election for some that are more in touch with the local community and its needs.Name and address supplied
