The proposals for the link road from Flax Bourton to M5 junction 20 have a far longer history than implied by your article on July 5.In 1966, my late father-in-law, Cyril Mitchard, retired as divisional highways surveyor for the Long Ashton District. Before he retired he had overseen the compulsory purchase of several properties on the proposed route. These included the large house just south of the old Wraxall Rectory as well as the large property in the dip between Wraxall and Nailsea. It would be wonderful to see these 45-year- old proposals finally come to fruition so that villages like Tickenham could be restored to the peaceful state Mr Mitchard would have known. Thundering juggernauts would no longer divide, damage or pollute our delightful villages.Rob Gillingham - Clevedon Road, Tickenham
