AS PERHAPS the last pupil of Fairleigh School (closed in the 1940s) still living in Weston, I am greatly saddened by the prospect that this fine stone Victorian school building in Bristol Road Lower, Weston, is to be demolished to make way for a Meccano-type modern building completely out of keeping with the area and two floors too high. There are excellent architects in the town who have converted hospitals, schools and churches into attractive flats and this should be the way forward for these two soundly built buildings. It is far more stimulating to those concerned to convert, than to take the easy way out, destroy and replace.C J PEVERELLE - Edinburgh Place, Weston
