USED as I am to reading about the waste of taxpayers' money by local councils, your article on last week's front page takes the biscuit. After several months of investigation and a 10-hour meeting they gave the director concerned what does not even appear to be a slap on the wrist. Surely asking him to hand over his keys and leave immediately by the front door as he had been sacked would have been more appropriate? What is surely of more concern to taxpayers, is the comment from a council spokesman that they regret the media and thereby the taxpayers found out about their pathetic action. Being found out seems in fact to be their main concern. I have written today to the council, asking for a run down on the costs of this matter under the Freedom of Information Act.
