THE Weston Senior Citizens Forum is a non-party political organisation and in the run up to the election we have invited Prospective Parliamentary Candidates to attend our meetings so that they can put their case. It also gives our members the opportunity to meet and question the candidates.
However, we strongly object to this offer being used as a political endorsement of their policies. Mike Bell, in a full page advertisement in the Weston Mercury gives this impression by using the Forum and my name without permission and I deeply resent the implication this gives. I made the statement in a courteous way to introduce him at our last meeting, not as an endorsement, nor to permit him to use my name in what I can only call a bit of political gimmickry or skulduggery.
I have spoken to Mr Bell and he has apologised for not informing me of his intentions. However, I am left with the feeling that we have been used and this political spin is not appreciated from the Liberal Democrats or any other political party.
