NOW that the council has made its decision, it can be admitted that planning is far advanced for the moment when 700 highly trained and superbly equipped local government officers will descend on Clevedon and take over the key installation there.

Up to now of course, these detail plans could not be divulged as to do so would have given away the secret strategy, and possibly upped the price.
But questions must still be asked, and in a recent conversation with another district - I heard complaints that in a similar move managers are instructing that there will be no storage space for documents. This is, they said, the age of the paperless office. All is done on computers, they said. So any archives...are being stored in nearby museums run under the aegis of the council. Sadly, it seems this option may not be available here in Weston, if the same policy is applied, which might be by some Whitehall or EU edict.
I hope we can learn these lessons of history. In my own experience we were told in a reorganisation long ago that there was no call for drawing storage. They would all be on computer disc too, they said. We tried telling that to our highways contractors and got a dusty answer....
