I THINK the picture of the Grand Pier pavilion shown in the Mercury on February 19 is a disappointment compared to the initial designs we were shown, which was lovely and colourful.

It showed an ugly white and grey building and the elevation behind it looks totally ridiculous - what an eyesore. It's nearly as bad as the 'carrot' which has become even more ugly now it is covered in filth.
There is no need for a viewing platform of this sort in a town like this - you are not going to get queues of people wanting to look out at the dirty sea and the grotty dirty buildings of Weston and beyond.
I do not think a large wheel on the Beach Lawns is necessary either.
What would be of more benefit to our town is an ice rink. It's a shame another floor can't be built on the proposed new Tropicana to hold one. We could draw tourists to the town by holding competitions and ice shows and it would be something of interest to get kids off the streets.
