IT is interesting to read letters regarding the request for a re-appraisal of the Severn Barrage after decades of rumours. I have often heard Somerset residents saying 'the barrage will never happen in my lifetime' and this may have already come true for many who are no longer around to join in the current debate.Whilst on this tidal subject, can any reader cast light on the 100 Year Tide that is said to be of such force and height that it would cause devastation up the Severn coast but especially hitting Portishead. Is it just a myth or folklore passed down through generations? If there any truth to it, when is the next one due? This will be invaluable information to anyone considering buying a property at the new Dockside development in Portishead which is to be sited close to the wharf where current sea defences, although recently improved in parts, may not provide sufficient protection to reassure buyers or their insurance companies. Sales teams at Crest Nicholson were unsurprisingly not forthcoming with any information.ANNETTE HENNESSY - Portishead
