IN JULY, 2006, I was in correspondence with the then leader of North Somerset Council, the late Alan Hockridge, regarding the future use of the Park Place putting green in Weston. At that time there was a rumour that North Somerset Council was in the process of turning this valuable green site into a car park. After several attempts I eventually received from Cllr Hockridge a letter confirming that North Somerset Council had no plans or proposals to redevelop the putting green. Now, 18 months on, it seems the council has had a change of heart. It seems this council is proposing to build underground overflow tanks for the town's flood defence scheme, as reported in your January 3 issue, page 8.Contrary to the assurances I was given at the time, I am sure discussions to redevelop this site were already in progress then. Is it any wonder the public of North Somerset has little faith in its council?D A STANLEY - Castle Hill, Banwell
