I WAS not surprised by your recycling scandal headline as I wrote to the Mercury some months ago after seeing green garden waste sacks being emptied into the dustcart along with black bags. What I do find shocking is that the council has given Veolia a financial incentive to put green waste in with domestic rubbish by paying a fixed price for green waste collection and per ton for black bags. The council should be paying a higher per ton rate for green waste than black bags. This would encourage Veolia to collect as much green waste as possible and might prevent large landfill fines being levied on the council.MRS J EDWARDS - Constable Drive, Worle
