CAN I through your paper express my sincere thanks to the PCSOs who arranged such a splendid event to raise money for the community centre at Maltlands, especially officer Heather Searle. A total of just over £800 was raised which was a tremendous result. Not only do I want to thank those who worked so hard, including the dedicated committee members and local councillors, but the people of the Maltlands estate for turning out in such large numbers. My thanks also to the many local businesses who so generously supported the event by giving prizes, etc. When so very often we hear much that is negative regarding family life and problem youngsters, this event disproved pundits of doom and gloom. The field was full of young families and grandparents and people of all ages enjoying a family afternoon out. The community centre needs rebuilding and planning has been agreed, we are now in the process of trying to raise the £400,000 to make this a reality to enrich the feeling of community in the Maltlands area. As Methodist minister for the area I am hoping that the local Methodist community will find a way of supporting this venture. Until then we are asking the council if they can help with funding to keep the present project afloat. Many thanks again to the residents of Maltlands for supporting your community in this way, continue to use the centre and we look forward to the new building going up in the next couple of years.REV ROBERT CHANNON - Committee Member
