THE vote on the Henry Boot proposal for the Tropicana development was about as important as you can get. The fact that some councillors found the topic "for the people of Weston to decide, so I abstained" is a misrepresentation of their office as a councillor in a UNITARY AUTHORITY. Any abstention using that kind of reasoning is corrupting the responsibility of an elected representative. Don't these people realise to whom they owe responsibility? This isn't a parish council meeting or the management of a church fete. This was a serious issue where a controversial local asset was being handed over to a grateful developer for peanuts. Were we getting value for money and who says so and why? Were these the right people to develop such a site? Could we get ripped off? As it was, a blatantly controversial issue was railroaded through. The whole evening was a debacle from start to finish and a sad day for local democracy (and yes I was there). Shame on those who neglected their duty to the public. I have one suggestion for you that would benefit all residents. RESIGN NOW. J BARTLETT - St Ives Road, Weston
