I HAVE been living in Weston now for over 20 years, having spent an awful lot of time here from the age of six and I have never seen so much decay of a year-round seaside resort that is so respected. I feel it is about time the people opened their eyes to this council because since they have been in power they have created total havoc.Look what they have done for themselves: huge pay rises, cuts in services to the elderly, school buses scrapped to save money, the Tropicana almost if not a derelict, Birnbeck Pier a total derelict, the town centre like a tomb in the Meadow Street area, in the papers the Dolphin Square is on hold, the Tropicana developers Henry Boot has been given yet more time to sort out their house, the Government has told me by letter that local authorities have got to make bus travel better, but have they in Weston? No. Need I go on?Look at the village near Swindon called Highworth that had a lido that went into a bad state of neglect too. What happened? The people got together and what is it like now? A nice place to visit, and guess what, they got a sliding roof for all-year-round use. Does it not make you wonder why this town can't go the same way?So come on Weston, wake up and see what this council is doing to our seaside resort and stop it once and for all before we have no seaside resort at all.MR R G EYERS - Byron Road, Weston
