REMEMBER Al Bowlly? In November 2004, a play 'what I wrote' about the legendary crooner Al Bowlly was premiered at the Playhouse in Weston. It was called The Very Thought of You and it had a jolly nice reception from the Playhouse audience. A number of people introduced themselves to me in the interval of the show, and told me stories about their memories of Al, in Bristol and London, in the 1930s. In the hurly-burly of the opening night, I didn't take note of any of these friendly people's names or addresses. So can I ask through the Mercury that those who contacted me at that time, should do so again, on 01761 462161 or e-mail: newstaving@btinternet.comThere are plans now for a BBC programme about Al, and I've been asked to help with the research for this.TONY STAVEACRE - Blagdon
