THE recent floods are to be seen as God's judgement on man's greed, according to Church of England bishops. There is truth in their statement.In pursuit of income, councils up and down the country have been all too ready to allow building on land which is itself vulnerable to flooding, or on sites which, by increasing run-off, cause properties to be flooded elsewhere.Weston has doubled in size since 1968 when flood waters breached the bridge at Congresbury. A combination of such quantities of rain with high tides could wreak havoc. The town's drains can hardly cope with moderate rain. Now there are plans for yet more housing on the outskirts of the town in order to meet Government home building targets.ROBERT CRAIG - Priory Road, Weston
