My wife and I were tremendously fortunate that the Royal visit occurred during our year of office. It was an enormous thrill for us to be part of the occasion, to meet The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, and to have lunch with the latter.Although we were only involved on the periphery of the Weston part of the visit we saw from close quarters the amazing amount of detail that had gone into the occasion and which we Brits do so well. Lady Gass, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, could not have been more helpful and down-to-earth and was wonderful at putting everyone at their ease. The North Somerset Council team of Graham Turner, Vivienne Thomson, Pam Kirby and Vanessa Setterington did an absolutely wonderful job. Well done - and congratulations to all the members of your teams. Let us now all build on the royal visit to Weston. We have a town to be proud of but it needs everyone to pull together to ensure that it always looks its best. Let everyone - North Somerset and town council and residents - play their part in ensuring that the royal visit is a springboard to a future three-way co-operation. This is the only way forward for those of us who have Weston's best interests at heart.John Ley-Morgan - Mayor of Weston
