THE valley between Nailsea and Backwell is a beautiful area under threat of disfigurement from the National Grid.
History has a way of repeating itself.
Twenty years ago the valley between Nailsea and Backwell was also under threat. Then huge numbers of people who lived all over Nailsea and Backwell joined the Morgan's Hill Protection Association and fought off developers Costain, saving the land around Backwell Lake for all of us to enjoy.
So many people turned up for the first public meeting at the Scotch Horn Centre that even the late Lord Wraxall had to queue outside.
Twenty years ago it was people power that saved Backwell Lake, Youngwood Lane and the area seen from Morgan's Hill from development.
But this time it is not only these areas that are under threat - Wraxall, Tyntesfield, the Yatton Biddle Street site of special scientific interest (SSSI) - all are under threat. Only local people power will protect our local environment.
The Morgan's Hill Protection Association will be backing Save Our Valley because it's the best way we can protect the local area around Backwell Lake, Youngwood Lane and Morgan's Hill.
MARTIN MERRY
Morgan's Hill Protection Association chairman
Bucklands View, Nailsea.
