I WAS sad to see certain councillors are just looking for publicity instead of looking to the bigger picture. (The article in Mercury, February 16). The dog bins working party only sits twice a year, and even then they have difficulties getting all members to attend. By incorporating these two meetings into the amenities committee, to whom they answer anyway, the town council is saving the taxpayers money. Many letters appear in the local papers around budget time regarding the amount of council tax spent on administration. By not having these two meetings the council will save on the hours of staff attending taking minutes, compiling these minutes after and also coffee and sandwiches, as these two meetings are held at lunch time and councillors have to be fed, so that they can go back to work or on to further meetings of their choosing. This incorporation of the working party will not in any way denigrate the work that has and will be done re dog bins, etc., but will in all probability ensure that the work is done as and when required and not just twice a year.CLLR ASTRA BRAND - Castle Batch Ward, Weston
