I WAS interested to read your article about the problems experienced with North Somerset Citizens Advice Bureau phone line, due to lack of volunteers. As the article states, we at the Legal Services Commission provide some of the CAB's funding and it certainly provides a valuable service to the people of North Somerset. Volunteering at the CAB can be an enriching experience so I wish them well with their current recruitment drive. We at the Legal Services Commission provide a free confidential telephone helpline, 0845 3454345, which provides quality assured legal advice in welfare benefits and tax credits, debt, housing, employment and education. It is funded by legal aid and aimed at people on low incomes. It is open from 9am-6.30pm Monday to Friday. Advice is available in any language. Our website www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk also provides information leaflets and fact sheets about common legal problems which can be downloaded. If you're on a low income or welfare benefits and are unable to get through to the CAB helpline why not call Community Legal Advice? You will get the advice you need and if your case is such that you need to see an adviser you will be referred to the CAB or other suitable advice provider in the area.GEOFF MOUNTJOY - Regional Director, Legal Services Commission South Region
